Car parking brake details

The main components of the parking brake:

Brake drive (mechanical or manual)
Is a system of levers, rods and a tension mechanism that transmit force from the brake screw to the brake shoes.
Most cars use a screw drive that is activated by turning the manual brake handle.

Brake handle (flywheel, handbrake wheel)
Is installed outside the car on a special brake platform.
With its help, the screw mechanism is manually rotated, activating the brake system.
It is made of durable metal, has a convenient grip.

Screw mechanism (brake screw)
Transmits the force of the brake handle to the brake traction system.
Converts rotational motion into translational motion by tensioning the brake rods.

Brake rods
Connect the screw mechanism to the brake shoes.
They are metal rods or chains that ensure uniform distribution of braking force.

Brake lever system
Provides force transmission from the hand brake to the brake shoes.
Includes several levers and articulated joints to enhance the applied force.

Brake shoes
The main element that creates friction with the wheels of the car.
Usually made of cast iron alloy or composite materials.
Provide reliable braking when the wheel is compressed from both sides.

Brackets and fasteners
Supporting elements fix the brake mechanism to the car frame.
Include various bolted joints, rivets and welded structures.

Return springs
After releasing the brake, they return the rods and levers to their original position.
Ensure smooth operation of the brake mechanism.

Where used:
